Speaking at the Zanu (PF) Sixth People’s Congress in Harare today, Agriculture Minister, Joseph Made alleged that efforts to revive the agricultural sector were sabotaged by the then Finance Minister, Tendai Biti.
“Your Excellency, I am aware of how much you agonized from 2009 with the economy particularly the agricultural sector which had been undermined. At every Cabinet meeting, we talked of support to agriculture but because of the then Minister of Finance, agriculture was undermined and it was only from 2013 to 2014 that we were able to support agriculture to the extent that we did,” said Made.
Without elaborating, Made said that it was not the MDC-T alone who were in the habit of sabotaging agricultural productivity but said they were other people involved as well.
“Still there were others who were in the habit of undermining efforts to revive agriculture. I do hope that as we move forward, we will be more focused and helpful to our people,” said Made.
He implored the party to ensure that inputs under the Presidential scheme would be distributed in a transparen’t manner.
The residential inputs scheme has been rocked by allegations of corruption as well as partisanship that has often led o MDC-T supporters being left out.
“We must take a firm position to make sure that these inputs are distributed equally,” said Made.
