Mugeyi awaits his dues

Former Zimbabwe national team striker, Wilfred Mugeyi, revealed this week that he was still waiting for a settlement with his former club AmaZulu.

The Zimbabwean was recently released from his contract with AmaZulu, where he was caretaker coach before the appointment of Steve Barker to take over the reigns.

He still had six months remaining in his contract with the club, but was released because the new coach did not have him in his future plans for the club.

“At the moment I’m jobless and sitting at home, waiting for any lucrative opportunities that may come,” said the former Black Aces star in an interview earlier this week. “I left the team because they didn’t have a better position for me, so I’m still waiting for my settlement with them, which I hope they will meet soon.”

Mugeyi is one of the top strikers from Zimbabwe, having once dazzled South African football with his rare skills. He scooped the Golden Boot Award, Player and the Player’s of Year during his heydays, but he has not lived up to that in his coaching career, which has taken him from one club to another, usually in an assistant coaching capacity.

“I would love to coach in SA because it has become my second home. My family also lives here, but that does not mean I would not leave if I get better offers elsewhere. I’m ready to coach anywhere as long it is a good offer.”
