Muzondiwa tipped to flourish at FC Platinum

Outgoing Black Rhinos coach Justin Matutu this week tipped Zimbabwe Under-23 star Brian Muzondiwa to flourish at ambitious premiership side FC Platinum.

The gifted playmaker is perhaps the only headline signing of a rather subdued transfer window for FC Platinum, the country’s sole representatives in continental club competitions this year, as they take part in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Matutu, who coached Muzondiwa at Black Rhinos in the second half of last season, was convinced the midfield showman would prove his worth despite the fierce competition at the platinum miners.

“Muzondiwa is very good on the ball. He is gifted technically but he is also very strong despite his small body. He is one player we could not do without at Black Rhinos,” Matutu said.

The Norman Mapeza-coached FC Platinum hoped the addition of Muzondiwa to an already impressive array of talented young forwards would give them the edge required to make a mark in Africa. They have also signed teenager Emmanuel Mandiranga from How Mine and Shabannie’s Wellington Kamudyariwa.

The three join fellow rising stars Walter Musona, Wisdon Mutasa, Tatenda Dzumbunu and Obrey Chirwa, the star performers in the team’s exhilarating run in the second half of last season.

Another former Black Rhinos star, slippery winger Marshal Mudehwe, is set to return from long-term injury to fight for his place in the team.

Matutu was however, in no doubt that 22-year-old Muzondiwa had the potential to make his mark at the club, despite what is set to be a fierce competition for places in midfield.

“Muzondiwa can make it into any team in the premiership, that’s how good he is. He is a consistent performer. In fact, from the time I joined Black Rhinos he was behind most of the team’s moves. He only needs to work on his shooting and ensure that he puts his name on the score-sheet more often,” Matutu added.
