The guests he received were the first President of Zambia, Kenneth Kaunda, the Minister for Social Re-insertion of Angola, Baptista Kussumuva, and the Foreign Ministers of East Timor, India and Sweden, respectively Jose Guterres, K.V. Singh, and Margot Wallstrom.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the meeting, all five foreign dignitaries promised their full support for Nyusi.
“The relations between Mozambique and Zambia are very strong”, said Kaunda. “Mozambique is very significant for us. Samora Machel worked with us, and so we are here to support the new President. He will have our total support”.
For his part, Kussumuva said Angola hopes to strengthen its cooperation with Mozambique. “Angola and Mozambique are brother countries and the cooperation between us will never cease”, he said. “We shall prioritise our cooperation in the economic domain, both public and private”.
He added that from Nyusi’s speech at the investiture, “we heard that he is a more operational, dynamic man and a person of results, and that’s precisely the way in which our cooperation should be handled”.
Guterres said that East Timor and Mozambique want to strengthen their relations, particularly in the area of mineral resources. Both countries possess large offshore hydrocarbon reserves.
