Sources close to the correctional services outfit confided to this columnist this week that ZPS boss, Paradzai Zimhondi, had already indicated the struggling organisation would be censured if it went on to sponsor both Hwahwa and Harare-based Flame Lily, who were simultaneously promoted to the topflight at the end of last season.

This paradoxically comes after Zimhondi hit headlines in December, assuring fans that the ZPS would sponsor both clubs. “The reality has now hit home and we will have to look for sponsorship elsewhere because the organisation cannot sponsor two teams in the PSL when it is failing to discharge its core business of feeding prisoners in jails and ferrying accused persons on remand to court due to lack of resources,” said the source.
The development could be demoralising for Coach Luke “Jukulile” Petros, who recently conducted trials for new players with his assistant, Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa recently, with the aim of beefing up the squad ahead of the 2015 PSL jamboree.
Other reports now suggest Hwahwa FC may sell its franchise to Zvishavane-based Shabanie Mine, should no solution be found on the sponsorship within the next few weeks.
