Rusike who played well for Kaizer Chiefs in their recent international friendly against German Bundlesliga side, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, believed he had impressed coach Stuart Baxter well enough to start more games following the recent departure of countryman Kingstone Nkatha for SuperSport United.

“I’m enjoying my game and I’m ready to be the team’s chief striker when the season resumes after the Afcon,” he told The Zimbabwean.

“We are from the festive break, but the guys were unbelievable in training and showed no sign of fatigue at all. We will be in top form when the league resumes at the beginning of February.”

Although admitting that Chiefs would miss a player like Nkatha, Rusike saw that as an opportunity to close the gap and maintain the momentum, as the Soweto giants seek to make good in all the three competitions they are set to partake in – the league, the African Champions League and the Nedbank Cup.

Still the only side that remains unbeaten in the league in 18 matches, Chiefs have already won the MTN8 Trophy, after they beat perennial rivals, Orlando Pirates 1-0 earlier in the season.
