Should I leave?

Dear Aunty Lisa

My 2014 did not end well, I never got a bonus package nor a grocery hamper from my company and there was no communication on why this had changed this time around.

I approached the manager and I was told that I am being too forward and that it was not part of the contract that these were given to employees. I am becoming fed up with the attitude of my bosses who seem to brush issues off by turning the tables on anyone who seek answers from them.

I am thinking of leaving my job and starting my own business. Some are saying my move is driven by emotions and it is not right, but if I stay I will end up in endless confrontations with the management. What is better here? – Foreman

Dear Foreman

Nothing looks better to me. Endless confrontations with your bosses may end up seeing you fired and leaving to start your own business without proper planning may see you fail. It is frustrating when there is no communication from your bosses and you need answers about what is happening.

Communication is always healthy when it is both ways and not just top to bottom, which can be understandably frustrating. However, do not make decisions out of anger or emotion. You would probably regret it when you are no longer angry. I know how difficult it is to be in an environment where you feel unappreciated and unhappy. But you need to start planning for your business while you are still there. Hang on and look for a job elsewhere or start making plans on your business. – Aunty Lisa
