We are worried by the unprecedented levels of corruption among the Zimbabwe Republic Police which exceeds the rate of economic growth – Stephen Ndlovu, Magwegwe, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is in a crisis and the people eating what they reaped ‘voting Mugabe and Zanu (PF). We have said it again and again that Robert Mugabe is a ruthless dictator. Smith warned Britain against endorsement of Mugabe as prime minister of Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans cried for years under the yoke of Zanu (PF) and pain inflicted by Mugabe dictatorship. Now it’s your turn Joice Mujuru, Jabulani Sibanda, Rugare Gumbo and others. The former Mugabe allies should feel the heat – Konie Nyane, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Whilst It could make your journalistic logic never to associate Mugabe with a single correct decision, I beg to differ with your correspondent on your December 18 opinion page, criticising Mugabe’s choice of VP Emmerson Mnangagwa over Joice Mujuru. Hate Ngwena or not, he remains the popular people’s choice. Proof: The so called 2004 Thsolotsho Indaba. Q.E.D. on Jera’s allegations of Ngwena’s cruelty, I hope it would be cruel to pile all Gukurahundi blameworthiness on Ngwena for the circumstance. On the other hand logical individuals could not, without hesitation heap all the blame for the Rhodesia airforce bombings on the liberation war fighter bases in Mozambique, on the Prime Minister of the day, Abel Muzorewa. On the more crucial issue of the calibre of the national leader’s grey matter, I do not think the doctorate qualification bestowed on Mujuru confirms her superior intelligence. The contrary undeniable truth is that the intellectual community should engage in constructive dialogue, identifying potential national presidential candidates from the nation’s or Zanu (PF)’s very large pool of suitable candidates. The majority of people and the intellectual community should not take a passenger sit when it comes to issues to do with suggesting future national leadership. More responsible intellectual political contributions can facilitate the growth or positive transformation of Zanu (PF) and national democracy. Meanwhile, I believe that responsible journalism should as much as possible strive to facilitate society benefit from sending children to school for them to contribute intellectually towards crucial future national debate and assume responsible leadership positions – Chirandu, Harare, Zimbabwe

Government should admit failure and sincerely call for an all stakeholder indaba to chart the way forward like the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai has just proposed. The economy has taken a dangerous route which should make Zanu (PF) swallow its pride and do the right thing. The writing is on the wall that the Zanu (PF) government has failed as expected. Seeking advice from the opposition and other agents of development is not a sign of defeat by what all people centered and right thinking leadership would do. Imagine a government struggling to pay its poorly paid workers their annual bonuses. Shame on you Mugabe and your bootlickers. You have soiled your otherwise was good legacy – Martha Sithole, disappointed long serving civil servant.

Grace Mugabe is desperately applying for trial at the Hague. What would make Grace think she was doing human rights good by evicting poor farmers from the land to replace them with wild animals. This is cruelty at its worst. – Webster Ndemera, Mucheke, Masvingo
