Big Eleven star set for Ajax

Big Eleven FC starlet Lance Gambe is set to leave the country soon for a trial stint with Absa Premiership outfit Ajax Cape Town. The versatile 19-year-old was in the Zimbabwe Under-15 side which took part in the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore.

Big Eleven founder and director Amin Soma-Phiri told The Zimbabwean this week that Gambe had been doing well for the Bulawayo-based Division 3 side and deserved to try his luck in South Africa.

“The young man will be going to South Africa as soon as he gets his travel documents. He has done very well for us and we hope he will make it at Ajax. He is a brilliant player who can play in midfield or defence. He is a forceful player but he is also technically sound and our hope is that he can continue developing and become an asset for the country in the future. Our goal is to produce more players of that calibre and help them to realise their dreams of playing professional football,” Soma-Phiri said.

Big Eleven also have another player who is likely to join the great trek to South Africa but Soma-Phiri said he was not yet in a position to provide details.

The Highlanders legend, who formed Big eleven with the sole purpose of nurturing talented young players from Bulawayo and surrounding areas, also disclosed that he had made his own arrangements to join Ajax for a brief attachment.
