How Mine on Right track: Masomere

How Mine coach Luke Masomere recently expressed confidence in his team’s strength ahead of the new season, dispelling fears that some of his new recruits were too past their peak to add value to his ambitions.

The gold-miners have recruited a slew of top names to earn the tag of “killing machine” from some sections of the media, but some fear echoes of the FC Platinum experiment, which fell apart spectacularly after some so-called big names who had been recruited at a considerable cost failed to sparkle.

While the Zvishavane-based outfit have since refined their approach to focus on quality as opposed to quantity, How Mine have shaken the transfer market with an ambitious recruitment drive that has captured pre-dominantly experienced players like Limited Chikafa, Devon Chafa, Tawanda Muparati, Benjamin Marere and Charles Sibanda.

Masomere however feels that any suggestion some of his acquisitions are mere names remains just “pub talk.’ “Our oldest new recruit is Limited Chikafa and I am convinced he is going to add value to the team,” said Masomere.

“I personally wanted all the players who have come in and I am happy and looking forward to the new season. Any suggestion that some of the new players are past their peak is just pub talk which has nothing to do with How Mine.”

How Mine played a goalless friendly match against Harare City on Sunday, but Masomere said his charges were beginning to gel. “We are moving in the right direction in terms of our preparations and readiness for the new season and I am confident that we will achieve our objectives. … we want to improve from last year,” he said.
