Since he joined the Soweto giants at the beginning of the season, Karuru has been restricted to playing friendly matches for them, but with the African Champions League, Absa Premiership race and the Nedbank Cup fast coming up, Chiefs need to use some of the fringe players in their ranks.
That will present a chance for the former Masvingo United star to see more action as he is also registered for the Champions League, where Chiefs will use him, especially in the early stages where they meet token opposition from continental football minnows Botswana.
In the league, the left-footed Karuru had managed just a single substitute appearance – which was a stoppage time introduction against Free State Stars in December, since he arrived at the beginning of the season on a free transfer. He had just left Belgian club, OH Leuven.
"I am impressed with Karuru, who has now shown some positive signs in as far as adjusting to our brand of football is concerned. He is fast getting used to our style of play," said Baxter. "He is almost ready to start making regular appearances. He came to us unfit and needed some time to understand how we play. I am now impressed with him and remain convinced he will play a pivotal role in bringing more success to the club."
Baxter also urged his fans to give the player time to get used to the grand stage that is playing for Chiefs before a packed stadium.
"We need to be patient with him. These are things that happen within a squad, and whenever you make a signing, it is not always someone who is going to go straight in like some would expect," he added.
