Boasting a coaching career spread over 21 years during which he had stints in unique places like Asia, America, South Africa and Bangladesh, the Englishman is however, not losing sight of the fact that his job at Caps is like working inside a coke oven – always under intense pressure.

“I believe in hard work and I think team spirit will take us through.

There are a number of good players that we have and I am confident that they can do the job,” said Harrison.

“It is my first time to coach a championship racing team, but all the same, we will try to always do something exciting, especially for our fans,” he said.

The green machine got a pre-season morale booster when they beat perennial rivals and defended league champions, Dynamos, in a lowly-sponsored Sino-Zim Cement Challenge Cup showdown at Rufaro stadium.

On the other hand, the perennial financial crisis that recently saw most senior players take turns to desert the club is seemingly over, thanks to a South African firm, Zing, who have have partnered with the team on a one-year deal.

The finer details of the sponsorship package have not yet been revealed, but the general facts announced by club chairman Twine Phiri indicated that the foreign company would cover the players’ salaries and general management.

During the pre-season transfer window, Caps signed a number of new players who include former Dynamos forward, Rodrick Mutuma, goalminder Victor Twaliki from Shabanie Mine and Joel Ngodzo from Highlanders.

With these developments at hand, brighter days should be coming back to the side and only Harrison’s tactfulness and ability to handle the pressure expected at such a big club is now needed.

“Our victory against Dynamos over the weekend did not mean much for us, although we celebrated it. There is still more to work on and we just should not be carried away,” said the coach.
