PSL Round-up with Brenna Matendere

Dynamos’ new-found lethal forward, Kasimero Chimbadzwa, looks set to be the answer to the Glamour Boys’ perennial problem of a blunt strike-force.

In the last four seasons, DeMbare’s strikers have stuttered in front of goal, with midfielders and defenders being the regular scorers in the 21 time champions’ crucial victories. Last year, the team had the least number of goals compared to the ones managed by other top sides. They found the back of the net 34 times in 30 matches, while league championship runners-up, ZPC Kariba, banged in 44 goals.

Highlanders’ tally was 38, while Caps United scored on 37 occasions. Even Hwange and Triangle, who finished the season at distant positions, scored more goals than DeMbare, with 36 apiece.

In the few games that Dynamos have played in preparation for the beginning of the season, Chimbadzwa – who won the World Navi Northern Region Division One League Golden Boot award with 22 goals for ZRP FC last season, has been in trailblazing form, scoring in every outing.

He grabbed a brace when his side clashed with league debutants, Whawha FC in Gweru recently. “I am just expressing myself and enjoying every game. That has always been my approach. If I continue to be steady and resolute, I will turn around the fortunes of DeMbare this season,” said the striker.

David Mandigora, the new Dynamos’ coach, expressed optimism that the forward would give them the edge this season. “He is a good player, but we are also assessing a few more others. We have acquired Kelvin Bulaji and Dominic Chungwa from Caps United and if they gel, that would be good for us,” he said.

The coach also made the final confirmation that lanky forward Rodreck Mutuma was no longer in his plans, together with intelligent winger Tafadzwa Rusike.
