Kauya Katuruturu were beaten to the honours by champions Dynamos on the last day of the 2014 campaign after a terrific season in which they only needed a draw against Caps United in the last hurdle to make history.
They went on scoop numerous accolades, with their coach Saul Chaminuka being crowned the best mentor out of 16 contenders. Their full back, Dennis Dauda, bagged the Soccer Star of the Year prize with his team-mates, ageless Limited Chikafa and goalkeeper Tendai Hove coming in as runners-up.
However, this year looks set to be a different one altogether and a miracle would be needed for the energy side to avoid chasing shadows. A number of players have already jumped ship and signs are that more may still desert them.
Defender Obey Mwerahari has joined Dynamos, while Chikafa has moved to Bulawayo, where is now with How Mine. The dreadlocked Dauda has also been linked with a move to either DeMbare or How Mine, after he recently declared that he would not be part of ZPC Kariba this year. Intelligent striker Pride Tafirenyika is also on his way out, while Chaminuka’s future in the resort town also hung in the balance, as most of the personnel continue to seek greener pastures.
Despite all the drama, there is one person who believes the steam will never disappear at the club- Sheperd Mandizvidza, the club’s spokesperson.
“We have also snatched Thomas Magorimbo, the vice-captain of Dynamos and I believe we will rise again this season. We are committed to psychologically prepare our troops for this season so that they can do well despite all the movements of other players,” he said.
