De Jonge two strokes off

Zimbabwe’s Brendon De Jonge is tied for fourth only two strokes off the leader following the completion of the first round of the USA PGA Tour Valpar Championship Thursday.

De Jonge hit a four under par 67, to stay only two shots behind overall leader Englishman Brian Davis who is on six under par 65 ahead of the start of the second round.

De Jonge is tied for fourth with Sweden’s world number three Henrik Stenson, Alex Ceija of Germany, Americans Justin Thomas Derek Ernst, and Nicholas Thompson.

The four are one stroke behind Americans Sean O’Hair and Ricky Barnes who are hot on Davis’ heels on one under.

De Jonge is hoping to improve on his best finish so far this season which was a tied for second at the McGladrey Classic where he received $492 800.

Defending champion Valspa Championship title holder John Sanden of Australia carded a three over par 74 which has left him at a low 114th.

South Africa’s Ernie Else is way in 20th position on two under par 69.
