The abduction of Itai Dzamara raises several questions:
Does the constitution, and its accompanying right of protest, mean anything? Mugabe claims to have the support of two thirds of the voters. Surely this must mean that Dzamara and his group are a tiny minority, who may as well be left to feed the pigeons in AU Square. Why bother trying to silence this small minority? As chairman of Sadc and the AU, what example of leadership and democracy isMugabe’s government setting for Africa? Dzamara is not a member of some armed movement bent on blowing up bridges or bombing petrol stations. What justification is there for abducting an innocent man?
