Jaure happy with debut season

Zimbabwe national team left-back Partson Jaure this week expressed satisfaction with his first season in the Absa Premiership, where he has become one of the top performers for Pretoria University.

AmaTuks were seventh on the 16-team log with 29 points, albeit with a game in hand over fifth-placed Ajax Cape Town, who lay two points ahead and well within reach. Jaure attributed his and the side’s impressive form to an early season, where the club resumed their pre-season training at least a month before kick-off.

“We also started the second half of the season in fine form. We worked on many tactical issues and that is slowly paying off now,” said the defender. “The whole team is playing according to the coach’s instructions and our fitness level is up to standard.”

Although a regular in the team, the former Dynamos star said there was a lot of competition for positions, especially after the recent signing of new players. Coach Sammy Troughton and his assistant Selaotse Mosala have done tremendously well since they took over the reins from Steve Barker late last year.

“We lost Barker to AmaZulu, but the new coaches managed to maintain the good results because they are not new to the team’s set up, having worked in the technical department for a while.”

Since Jaure joined AmaTuks at the beginning of the season, he has cemented his place in the starting line-up, impressing even the new coach, who has continued to build his team around the Zimbabwean international.

Jaure’s countryman, Denver Mukamba, has also begun to find his feet at the Pretoria outfit, where he is now playing regularly. Goalkeeper Washington Arubi remains the club’s main man in the last line of defence.
