Chimene told stakeholders at the launch of her Fill the Pothole Campaign last week that the council had failed to provide quality service delivery to residents. “Your performance has not been up to standard. I am not pleased with your work. I am now doing your work,” she said.

“The city of Mutare has lost its glitter as Jewel of the East. The city is a gateway to Mozambique but its roads are littered with potholes. Where is the council?”

Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhemarare said there is need for stakeholders to join hands with the local authority in its quest to improve service delivery. The council faces a myriad of challenges chief among them financial constraints.

Nhemarare said it was owed huge sums of money by defaulting ratepayers and this had impacted negatively on service delivery.

Closure of many industries in the city has worsened the situation.
