Super Trouper sends punters smiling

Seven-year-old Super Trouper sent punters smiling all the way to the bank last week, after dishing out a high $17.40 for a totalisator win in the 1,600-metre Ipi Tombe Stakes.

The gelden opened betting at 7/1before closing at a high 18/1 for another high of $20.40 for a swinger combination with second placed Thriller in Manila. Super Trouper offered $43.10 for his combination with third-placed Menacing.

Thriller in Manila and Menacing were at $27.10 for every dollar placed. The trifectar was at $2,363.40, while the quartet – which also included fourth-placed Glorious Jet, offered $17, 113.10 for every dollar placed on bet.

Super Trouper, ridden by Brendon McNaughton, was 0.25 lens ahead of Thriller and finished the race in one minute 34.75 seconds. The Ipi Tombe Stakes offered $12,000 in stakes money, with the winning horse guaranteed of $7,200. The handlers of Thriller in Manila received $2,400.

Menacing got $1,500. Super Trouper also won the Zimbabwe Challenge and the Breeders Sprint.

The next race at Borrowdale race course is the Bloodstock South Africa, set for March 22. Lucky Sam is the defending champion.
