The Mullins Bay gelden Merhaba, ridden by apprentice Wesley Marwing, won the race with Eversolucky in fourth place sandwiched between Mica Point and Tallie Two for what was a good day for Terzi.
Merhaba, bred by Shadwell Stud, is owned by S Armstrong, who lives in Kenya and so Terzi and groomer Nifford Dube had the extra honour of going to the podium to receive the honours.
Merhaba was a comfortable 1.25 lens winner over Mica Point to give out a totalisator win of $4.90. Merhaba had opened betting at 9/2 and closed at 15/2.
In the swingers Merhaba with Mica Point paid out $5.90 and $2.40 with Tallie Two. Those still to collect their pickings, Tallie Two and Mica Point are dishing out $6.00 for every dollar placed. The quartet is at high at $432.90 while the Trifectar is paying out $273.60.
The winning horse, Merhaba, received $4,320 while second placed Mica Point got $1,440. Bridget Stidoplh’s heavily favoured Print The Pounds failed to take to the race as she was scratched at the last minute leaving only eight horses to battle for the prizes on offer. Suave Singer who was at 16/1 on the opening of bets and dropped to 20/1 at closing was last in the race.
