News reaching NewZimbabwe.com is that the angry students have engaged in running battles with the police who are battling to control the dicey situation.
"Students are demonstrating. The Dean was trying to control the situation but vadzingwa (chased away)," said a student source at the UZ.
"Students went to the senior common room have looted bread from the Bakers Inn vehicles."
Students are reportedly demonstrating against starvation after kitchen staff in the giant complex reportedly downed tools earlier over salary grievances.
