DeMbare new signings will come good: Chihoro

Dynamos manager Richard Chihoro recently insisted that his side’s new recruits would eventually come good and play a pivotal role in the push for an unprecedented fifth-consecutive league title.

Apart from Qadr Amin and Godknows Murwira, who have already established themselves in the Dynamos starting line-up, the team’s other new signings have only played bit-part roles, if at all, and there are genuine concerns about their quality.

Chihoro said this week that the new players needed time to settle. “Dynamos is a big club and it is not easy to fit in right away. Most players need time to adjust but we are happy with the contributions of all our new signings so far. Murwira and Amin have settled down quickly but the others are also doing fine. They have made an impact each time they have come in from the bench,” he said.

The former Caps United duo of Kevin Bulaji and Dominic Chungwa is part of the new signings likely to struggle at DeMbare, alongside Zimbabwe Under-23 winger, Carlos Rusere. Right-back Obey Mwerahari , snapped-up from ZPC Kariba, sustained a pre-season injury and is yet to make his DeMbare debut.

A lot was expected from forward Bulaji in particular, but some underwhelming performances in pre-season have seen him spend Dynamos’ first few league matches of the season warming the bench. Chungwa has also endured the same fate, with Coach David Mandigora preferring to start with Simba Nhivi as his lone striker.

But the picture is looking much worse for young Rusere,- a favourite with Under-23 coach Pasuwa, who has however failed to impress Mandigora to the extent that he struggles even to make the bench.

Things could change as the season progresses though, especially if the team hits a barren patch in its present make up. Some observers have expressed doubts over the long-term effectiveness of Mandigora’s bottom-heavy approach, which often features seven naturally defensive players with Amin and Oscar Machapa playing as wide midfielders.
