Speaking to dozens of party supporters in Masvingo last week where he was commissioning a water treatment plant Mnangagwa said those who did not support Zanu (PF) deserved to die.

“We have things that we get for free from God such as oxygen, but when it comes to water we have to do something so that it is purified hence people have to pay for it. If I were God I was going to (sic) deprive all those who do not support the revolutionary party of oxygen so that they all die. I mean MDC supporters and their leader Morgan Tsvangirai,” said the vice president.

He mocked the MDC-T for refusing to participate in by-elections arguing that it would not stop Zanu (PF) from ruling. “Let them boycott elections arguing that they want reforms, but we are saying let them continue to boycott these elections while we continue to rule,” he said.

“We will continue to rule this country despite them shouting about electoral reforms. We are just listening to them and when they talk sense we take those useful ideas from them and continue to rule,” said Mnangagwa.

The city’s water treatment plant was rehabilitated using funds given by the donor community following the outbreak of cholera in 2008. But despite the commissioning of the rehabilitated water treatment plant, Masvingo continues to face serious water shortages. The local authority recently introduced water rationing, and dry taps have become common in high density suburbs such as Chesvingo, Runyararo west and Majange.
