Shot Zim woman not xenophobia victim

South African police have dismissed the claim that a Zimbabwean woman who was recently shot in Alexandra was a victim of xenophobic attacks.

Gauteng provincial commissioner, General Lestja Joel Mothiba, said today the 22 year old woman was shot by her 33 year old lover at their house on 19th Avenue on Monday night.

The attack had been included in reports on xenophobic attacks.

"We appeal to the community to help us catch him and bring him to justice. The man is also Zimbabwean, the attack had nothing to with xenophobia," Mothiba said at a media briefing.
