The constituency fell vacant after the expulsion from parliament of Didymus Mutasa who was recalled after expulsion from Zanu (PF). David Mukunda who will be contesting under the NCA ticket last Friday boycotted the ZEC meeting saying he has since lost faith in the commission and is accusing it of fronting for Zanu (PF) candidate Christopher Chingosho.

Mukunda said ZEC was being used by Zanu (PF) to rig the by-elections through the manipulation of the voters’ roll and delimitation of ward boundaries. “ZEC has removed polling stations in wards 6 and 12 where it is clear that Zanu (PF) would lose. Some voters have not been registered in these areas. I have tried to get answers from ZEC but to no avail. This is electoral fraud already,” he said.

The district elections officer Joel Mutambiranwa refused to comment saying he was not allowed to speak to the Press. He referred this reporter to Moffat Masabeya the Manicaland Province Elections Officer, whose number was continuously unavailable.
