Makamba, in a statement, announced that Angeline Vere had been appointed the new CEO from June 10.
Wrote Makamba: “The Telecel Zimbabwe Board of Directors is happy to announce the appointment of Angeline Vere as the Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Zimbabwe from June 10, 2015.”
He said the appointment was in line with the company’s equal employment opportunity and empowerment policies.
Vere was in 2013 appointed the Telecel general manager and became the legal manager in 2014.
In 2010, she became the company secretary and legal director and has more than 17 years experience in the telecommunications sector.
Prior to joining Telecel, Vere worked for several companies that include the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), TelOne and the Attorney General’s office.
She holds legal qualifications specialising in commercial law and a diploma in finance and accounting.
Makamba’s leadership of Telecel Zimbabwe has been in dispute over a long time and it was not immediately clear if new developments had authorised him to lead the board.
The likes of Jane Mutasa and her faction have fiercely resisted Makamba’s continued involvement in Telecel, whose licence was recently cancelled by government over its failure to pay the required operating fee.
Reports indicate a cabal of Zanu (PF) hawks is angling to take over stakes at the telecommunications oufit.
