Too early to discuss league crown: Antipas

Joey Antipas is enjoying his place in the sun as coach of crack Bulawayo side, Chicken Inn, but the modest coach still believes it is too early for his club’s fans to start fantasizing about the championship.

The gamecocks – a good side for all seasons, are currently perched in the summit of the log following a rich vein of form since the start of the race. They now lead defending champions by six points in 13 matches and ooze experience in the shape of Warriors skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri, former Soccer Star of the Year Clemence Matawu, goal minder Elvis Chipezeze, Tafadzwa Katinyu and Edmore Chirambadare who was on target last weekend, when the team saw off a formidable Chapungu with a 2-1 score-line at Ascot Stadium.

However, with everything pointing to the maiden championship for the gamecocks, Antipas decided to remain grounded in morale.

“We have just played 13 matches out of 30. Yes, the team is doing well and we are on top of the log, but to me it’s still too early to even think of the championship,” said the former Motor Action coach. “I would rather keep telling my boys to take every game as it comes then we will see. It’s never over until the last game of the league.

We need to remain vigilant. If we get carried away, we can get punished by other teams. So my message to the fans and players is that we have to give it all our utmost concentration.”
