Heal Zimbabwe Trust urges communities in Mudzi West to vote in a peaceful manner during the by-elections scheduled for the 24th of July 2015. The two candidates contesting are Magna Mudyiwa ZANU-PF and George Kawadza National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).
There were few reports of harassment and intimidation reported on the 21st of July 2015, in Ward 7 Suswe, where villagers were forced to attend a rally held at Chifamba Secondary School. The villagers were told to donate 50cents per family to fund the rally.
Traditional leaders and ZANU PF leaders also went around the community demanding 2kgs of mealie meal from each family, alleging that they did not want to be embarrassed by food shortages in front of the invited guest, Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko. HZT castigates and condemns such abuse of the poor by those in positions of authority and calls upon the people of Mudzi West to defy all calls for violence and vote in peace.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust further urges the political parties contesting to tolerate divergent views in order to observe peace during the by-elections. Further, the Organization would also like to challenge the Government to put in place measures that ensure that political parties do not abuse traditional leaders during electoral processes.
Community cohesion can only be realised when each individual takes all necessary measures to maintain peace because “…Peace begins with you; peace begins with me; peace begins with us all…â€Post published in: Human Rights
