Nyamubaya passes on

Freedom Nyamubaya, one of Zimbabwe’s leading female writers, has passed on.

She was 57.

Nyamubaya, who was a poet and novel writer, is reported to have passed away yesterday.

The cause of her death could not be immediately confirmed.

An MP and colleague of the late Nyamubaya confirmed the death but said he was yet to establish the facts around her tragic incident.

She was farmer in Mashonaland West province.

Nyamubaya fled school to join the armed struggle against colonial rule in the 1970s, returning to an independent Zimbabwe where she made a name for herself as a writer and poet as well social development activist.

She is survived by her only child her son Naishe who has just finished school at Peterhouse in Marondera and is about to go to university to further his studies.
