MDC-T officials detained in Siakobvu

Senior MDC-T spent two hours detained at Siakobvu police station as the government continued with its blitz on opposition forces.

Siakobvu business centre is situated about 210 kilometers west of Karoi town.
Mashonaland West information spokesperson, Blessing Mandava, said national executive member John Houghton, provincial executive members Mary Mukutirwa, Peter Banda, Kariba district chairperson George Masendu and women assembly chairperson Mrs. Kamupiyawo were on tour of duty to meet party members.
They were released after two hours. Police interrogated them but did not press any charges. ‘’In as much as we respect state institutions and the police in particular, we call upon the officers to remain apolitical and professional in the execution of their duties and uphold the constitution. These detentions, no matter or what form they may take, these will not deter us from carrying our mandate to reach out the suffering masses especially in Mashonaland West who have been neglected for too long,” said Mandava. This comes a few weeks after Vice President Thokozani Khupe was detained at Magunje police station on 18 July during her tour of Hurungwe district.
The police referred us to provincial spokesperson Clemency Mabgweazara, who said he needed to verify the allegations before making a comment. He had not done so by the time of going to press.
