Police arrest residents in Masvingo

Six of the petitioners who intended to deliver a petition to town clerk Adolph Gusha were released at 4pm yesterday, according to a statement by MRT.
Prosper Tiringindi (27), Ephraim Mutombeni (23), Elizabeth Manavira
(64) and Jessie Mutembwa (37) have remained behind bars and will appear before the Masvingo magistrates court today.
The four are being charged with section 41 of the Criminal Law Codification Act.
“Masvingo Residents Trust is deeply concerned with the lack of freedom of expression and association and the right to petition local government authorities and will continue to agitate for a transparent system of local government,” said MRT.
