Still unbeaten in the league thus far, Chiefs have still been a bit far from convincing in their displays under new coach Stephen Komphela.
In addition to having lost 0-1 to Ajax Cape Town in the MTN8 final, the Naturena giants have so far won only two of their six games in the league, settling for four draws that have left them in an unfamiliar fifth position on the log. Katsande however, still believed that to be a phase that would soon be past, making a vow that the defending league champions would soon find their rhythm. “Champions always bounce back,†said the defensive midfielder recently, voicing obvious disappointment at his side’s loss of the MTN8 final.
“It was upsetting, especially because we wanted to keep the trophy, but we have learnt from our mistakes and our focus now is fighting hard to defend the Absa Premiership trophy. Unlike a cup, which is a sprint, the league is a marathon, and one I believe we have the stamina and pedigree to win again.â€
The Zimbabwean midfielder spoke highly of the Chiefs supporters, who have formed a sea of “black and gold†wherever the side plays. “Our supporters have been great and they haven’t booed us.
Instead, they have kept giving us full support in every game, regardless of our performance. That’s also why we want to come up with positive results going forward. We want to reward our fans for always being so loyal behind us. They give us so much motivation and they always inspire us to do better,†he said.
