Hove family statement on commemorating Chenjerai Hove

We are grateful to Chenjerai Hove’s friends who have decided to hold a commemoration in honour of his memory on Saturday, 31 October 2015.

This artstic event will be held at the Queensdale Sports Club from late afternoon, from 4.30pm to 11.00pm. The commemoration will be in the form of readings and performances from various artists in genres as widely spread as from poetry and prose to music, comedy and a slide show.

Those who have confirmed their participation include poet laureate Albert Nyathi, personal family friend and renowned poet Chirikure Chirikure who has been leading the event preparations, actors, writers from the Zimbabwe Writers’ Association, as well as arts journalists.

There will be a mix of music from mbira, chimurenga and afro-jazz, featuring artists that include Hope Masike, Jairos Chabvonga, Okay Machisa and Ticha Muzavazi. Chenjerai’s son, Jabulani “J-Boss”, will also perform on stage with a band, while his daughter Tafadzwa will be among the readers.

Chenjerai’s widow, Tecla, will be present in person as Guest of Honour and to personally thank family and friends.

This is a celebratory and highly entertaining event set in a family friendly environment. It is open to the public for a norminal cover charge.
