Sources at the Mashonaland East youth ministry offices say President Robert Mugabe’s nephew was recently in the small town where he read the riot act on youth officers who are suspected to be followers of the now ZimPF leader.

“The last time I came here, I made it clear that all youth and youth programmes are guided by Zanu PF because this is the ruling party whose manifesto during the 2013 harmonised elections charmed the electorate, leading to its resounding victory,” Zhuwao was recorded saying to the youths.

“Now, I am being told that there are youth officers in certain districts who are doing the opposite. If there are those who feel they cannot tow such a line, then they are free to leave.

“We have many people who want those jobs. The chairmen of the party (Zanu PF) also have the right to write a letter to the relevant authorities expressing concerns about those who are working against the Zanu PF government,” Zhuwao said.

The sources said Zhuwao had since instructed Farai Chibanda, the Mashonaland East development officer, to whip into line youth officers found sabotaging Zanu PF projects.

The youth officers were recruited from at every ward level and in the past they have been fingered in acts of political violence against opposition supporters.

It is suspected that most youth officers in Mashonaland East who were employed during the time of the former Zanu PF provincial chairman, Ray Kaukonde, are behind the alleged sabotage in the province and they are working behind the scenes to prop up ZimPF.

Kaukonde was removed as chairman last year after being accused of bankrolling Mujuru’s alleged bid to topple President Mugabe.

He (Kaukonde) continues to give Zanu PF sleepless nights with the party accusing him of using cash to woo supporters to ZimPF.

However, Kaukonde has, since his shock ouster from Zanu PF, not taken part in any public political activity leaving his perceived links to Mujuru’s party a matter of speculation.
