United Democratic Front launches

A new political party called the United Democratic Front (UDF) has been launched and has announced its entrance into the mainstream political arena presently dominated by Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF and other seasoned opposition political parties. The UDF aims to draw voters by their aims for the country and have chosen as their slogan, 'The Party of choice!'

United Democratic FrontSpeaking at the first media briefing, UDF’s vice national organising secretary, Gideon Magadzire, mentioned that although politics and Christianity are often strange bedfellows, the UDF and its leadership have merged the two aspects and have launched a dynamic political party driven by God’s principals.

“Having observed the suffering of the masses, Almighty God sent a bulldozer to clear  unwanted bush from this troubled land in the form of Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC party. Unfortunately, the bulldozer only paved some of the way and it will be up to the United Democratic Front to ultimately clean up and bridge the gap in leadership deficiency and bring prosperity back,” said a clear spoken Magadzire.

He adding that the newly established UDF will be the saviour of and developer of a new model designed to meet the electorate’s every possible wish. Magadzire also mentioned that the party built up several years of experience before launching and could promised fellow citizens quality leadership of a political party that they would not regret joining.

Unlike other political parties and their ‘Hararenize’ and urbanise priority, the Bulawayo Provincial Chairperson of the newly registered UDF, Sihle Moyo advised that the official launch of the party will be done in the marginalised Binga area.

“Our political party is unique in that it has the interest of the people at heart. If the people give the UDF the opportunity, it will transform this country and put the nation and economic fortunes back on track. Unlike the present governing party, the UDP will never tolerate corruption and nepotism,” said Moyo to a loud round of applause.

The UDF’s first priority will be to trim and massively reduce the overcrowded legislators and cabinet ministers that is consuming a large chunk of the national coffers that is impacting negatively on the economy. They also intend turning Binga into the new capital city.

The launch of the party comes at a time when most citizens are voicing their dissatisfaction and anger with the Zanu PF’s misrule and empty employment promises through protests dubbed ‘Shut Down Zimbabwe’ which saw mostly peaceful protests. There were however some violence clashes between armed police officers and protesting civilians.

At the launch press conference, the UDF’s Deputy National Treasure, Leonard Mahora urged people from all walks of life, including the families of those who died for this country, to support their plan of putting the country back on the right path.

“Today is not only the launch of the party, it is a day of significance in this country’s political history. The United Democratic Front has thoroughly and objectively examined realities as a nation and considered the practical solutions needed to end the current regime’s destruction of this country, a country that was once the envy of many, a once great nation and a tourist destination of choice,” said Mahora adding that it is the party’s dream to see every citizen having a stake in the country’s future.

“The scourge of corruption needs to be totally uprooted. We urge all war veterans, the police, the army and intelligence services to stand together and defend the constitution,” she added.

President Robert Mugabe, who recently turned 92, has ruled since independence in 1980 in an era marked by vote rigging, mass emigration, human rights abuses and economic decline.

Vice national treasurer Joshua Khumalo said that both the leader of the UDF, Silence Chihuri from Mutoko (not related in any way with the police boss, Augustine Chihuri) and the deputy leader Ms Thandiwe Musimamga are expected to stand for election in 2018.
