ancellor of Wits University in Johannesburg.
Dean of Student Affairs Prem Coopoo accepted the petition in the vice chancellor’s absence.
The move is the first step in the organisation’s drive to urge schools and universities around the world to expel all beneficiaries of Zimbabwe’s government that are studying abroad.
Zimbabwe Youth Movement said while Zimbabweans were failing to get credible and affordable education in their country after Zanu (PF) had compromised the country’s education standards, party officials were sending their children and relatives to study abroad using Zimbabwe’s already scarce foreign currency.
“We the undersigned Zimbabwe Youth Movements in South Africa and individuals in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe hereby petition the South African government through the University of Wits Chancellor to expel Zanu (PF) beneficiaries, sons, daughters and relatives studying at the institution.
“Zimbabwe government has complicated all educational institutions at the expense of poor Zimbabweans whilst they send their children and relatives to better educational institutions beyond Zimbabwe boarders. We demand that with immediate effect the expulsion of all Zimbabwe Government beneficiaries from your institution,” read the petition. – CAJ News
