Cyclists pedal for Beijing

THE mountain biking team fared well at the African Mountainbike championships held in Windhoek, Namibia last weekend, despite luggage and bicycles arriving only a day before the race, which allowed the Zimbabwean riders only one practice lap of the course.
The Zimbabweans performed out of the

ir skin to take two medals at the championships – Margie Gibson attained gold in the Veteran Ladies and Trevor Volker bronze in the Men’s Sub Veterans categories.
Antipass Kwari, competing in the Pro Elite Men’s race alongside the much fancied South Africans Burry Stander and Kevin Evans, rode strongly to finish eighth overall, which has put Zimbabwe in an excellent position to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Zimbabwe will have to wait until 31 December to see if they will be the third African country to qualify for the Olympics. – Own Correspondent
