y. He had not been into the ring in almost two years with his last fight a not so inspiring points decision over Gardner Ndingwa at Reynolds Inn in October of 2005.
He had run out of contention having fought each of Ndingwa and Arigoma Chiponda four times. This did not augur well for his international rating as four victories over one fighter, counted for one duel.
It was his second loss in 14 fights having been knocked out by Hastings Rasani in his debut fight in Harare in 2001.
Patrick Mukondiwa, the secretary of the Zimbabwe Board of Boxing Control confirmed that Dube was knocked out by Chingangu in the fifth round.
Chingangu has been fighting on the professional scene for more than 15 years while Dube did not even go through the amateur ranks, as he had no opponents to fight in those ranks.
Dube could get an opportunity to redeem himself next month when he takes on Smart Nkomo in TMC heavyweight showdown in either Bulawayo or Harare.
Nkomo won on a majority points decision for the right to fight Dube after out pointing Kelvin Mudau.
Chamunorwa Gonorenda retired in the second round of his light heavyweight contest against Charles Chisamba.
Pamela Chimfili won a split decision over Zambian Jorta Smail in a women’s featherweight.
“Dube last fought in October. He must have been ring rust he has been out of action for a long time. He must stay in shape,” said Mukondiwa.
