According to media reports the two leaders expressed satisfaction with the prevailing peace, political stability and the holding of peaceful elections in the SADC region.
Concern was expressed about developments in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) due to rebel military activities. In a joint communiqué, the two leaders said they encourage the SADC member states to continue supporting the DRC government and to consolidate peace and stability in that country.
President Mbeki was in Namibia to hand over documents of Namibian births, deaths and marriages in South Africa and to sign aMemorandum of Understanding on Diplomatic Consultations.
