Nigerian president breaks ranks over Mugabe

Nigerian President, Mussa Yar'Adua broke ranks with other African leaders to level criticism at President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, saying his government has failed to respect the rule of law.

Yar’Adua backed Mugabe’s right, however, to attend the European-African Union summit in Lisbon, Portugal in December.

Yar’Adua, attending a meeting in Wiesbaden, Germany said: “I want to emphasise that what is happening in Zimbabwe is not in conformity with the rule of law. I do not subscribe to this.” He did not, however, eleborate as to how the rule of law was being breached.
