Gunners Football Club, which got off to an impressive start in the CBZ Premier Soccer League last weekend, will be looking to make it another resounding victory in Masvingo this weekend when they face fellow PSL debutants, Underhill.

Gunners cruised past the Mighty Bulls with a 2-1 victory at Gwanzura stadium, much to the delight of Team Manager Wellington Mpandare. They took a first-half lead through a penalty converted by their captain, Zhainu Jambo, in the 34th minute.

Thanks Tengwe scored another superb goal for Gunners in the early minutes of the second half, and Edmore Mufema’s 75th minute goal was not enough to save the Mighty Bulls.

Mpandare told The Zimbabwean, Gunners’ first match in the country’s biggest soccer league had been characterised by “lack of confidence in the first minutes, but the boys eventually rose to the occasion”.

“The boys are very excited about the victory. It was this game, which was going to put us in or out of focus for the other games that will follow, but it’s a good thing that we made it and they are now confident they are capable of beating any team,” he said.

“With more games, I believe Gunners will be playing a very good game. We have a number of talented young players who could not adjust but we are expecting change in the next few games,” said an optimistic Mpandare.
