Clinging to power
EDITOR - Zanu (PF) is determined to remain in power by whatever means possible.

The accelerated abuse of state media in the post-election period is sickening. The recent appointment of Happison Muchechetere, an infamous member of the CIO, as a CEO of ZBC is a clear example of how determined these Zanu (PF) cadres are trying to maintain their grip on power with their teeth.

Muchechetere had proved beyond reasonable doubt that he is not a patriot by being a praise singer to Robert Mugabe and a mercenary of the highest order. His anti-MDC programme, where three pro-Zanu (PF) people are on the panel attacking the MDC is the gravest insult to free media.

Last week there was Walter Muzembi on the panel. His words shook me for they reflected how inconsiderate Zanu (PF) members are when he said: “There are professional mourners”, responding to the mass killings of people by Zanu (PF). It is a clear indication that they are not concerned when they kill innocent people.

One of the happiest moments for peace loving Zimbabweans happened earlier this week when Baba Chatunga and his anti-democratic friend, the Iranian premier, were not invited to a dinner hosted by the UN secretary general and Italian prime minister.

That was a clear message to the dictator that his actions were not accepted. Anyway, in what capacity was he attending that summit; as far as I am concerned he is no longer the president.

We hope that these Zanu (PF)s read the message between the lines that they are not welcome anywhere in the world. Their end has come.

I want to encourage the people of Zimbabwe to go and vote and this nightmare will be over. These are the words of Winston Churchill during the darkest hours of the Second World War when Britain was the only country left fighting the Germans: “Hitler knows that he had to break us. If we give up to him we will lose everything that we had stood for, all the light will fall into the abyss of darkness’.

Even Mugabe knows that he had to intimidate us if he has to win the elections. If we give up, we will lose.

M.DUBE, Bulawayo

Pull the silent trigger

EDITOR – Zanu (PF) is too wounded that it is destroying everything that comes their way. Just don’t get in their way and if you do please do it with caution.

Even Mugabe will not vote for himself, he knows why. Just pull the silent trigger on June 27.

Disgusted at the lies

EDITOR – Two events this week have made me angry. The first was the visit to Rome by Robert Mugabe and claiming that the majority of Zimbabweans support his agricultural disaster.

I could forgive him for thinking that Grace is the majority of Zimbabweans, but he has no excuse for suggesting that his parcelling out of land to his corrupt cronies is empowering Zimbabweans.

The majority of Zimbabweans are now destitutes in other countries and even with his advanced dementia he knows better.

The second disgusting event was the banning of NGOs from distributing food to hungry Zimbabweans by Mugabe’s illegal government. If they think their ill-advised strategy would win them votes, then they are all mad.

Even their most stupid advisor, like Rotina Mavhunga, would tell them that this could hardly work.

Zanu (PF) has lost it

EDITOR – It really pains me to realize Zanu (PF) anticipates victory in the June 27th Presidential run-off. I feel pity that the reign of terror the tyrannical Zanu (PF) has unleashed in the rural areas will even rob it of the little support it once had in the previous elections.

For every sane person, no matter how severely they are beaten, voting for a tyrant is not a possibility.  Zanu (PF) has lost it.  People out there, whatever amount of threats, beatings and torture Zanu (PF) uses, as long as you’re left with at least an eye to see where to cast the X and the hands to correctly cast it, by all means make it to the polling station and oust Mugabe.

Every vote counts now. Go and make the difference. Every eligible voter should see by now that what gives Bob the confidence to think he can win is the small percentage he lags behind President Tsvangirai. Little did he realise votes split by Makoni’s yellow campaign and low voter turn out will this time be made good use of as it is the only opportunity left to rid Zimbabwe of Mugabe.

The war is still on. Zimbabwe let’s join forces, the power lies in our hands. Let’s exercise our right to vote and be heard and come June 27th Mugabe is run over. The New Zimbabwe is not far!

Excessive media control

EDITOR – Reports have been flocking from almost every rural area in Zimbabwe about politically motivated violence. There is still more to it than have been exposed because of the marginalisation level of some of the areas where mass victimisation has been encountered. It is, however, silly and nonsense to put the blame on the MDC. The MDC have nothing to lose in the rural areas and as such, there is no need for them to resort to violence as Zanu (PF) is claiming. I am sure such claims are the utter rubbish from political failures that want to use the sword to retain power as the ballot is proving to be a mountain to climb.

Politics is a dirty game, as many who play it know, but let not dirtiness surpass conscience and morality to the extent that we fail to realise perpetrators of violence. It is shameful to note that professional reporters try to justify the evil that Zanu (PF) does by addressing this bloodthirsty party’s actions as having been done by the MDC.

Does that add a cubit to your profession? The problem started by press censorship where everything that disseminates information to the public have been ZANUFIED and as such there is no alternative to letting the mass know what Zanu (PF) has done as soon as it occurs. Because of excessive media control, the MDC has no mouthpiece and the advantage is with Zanu (PF).

What is astonishing is that violence, trauma, burning of houses, victimisation and all sorts of ill-treatment that people experience everyday has on most occasions passed without any meaningful arrests. Is this not a clear indication that those who perpetrate violence have dominion over the police or are linked to some extent to law enforcement agents?

Every Zimbabwean knows very well what constitute Zanu (PF) and can no longer be foolish to the extent of believing that the MDC is on the focus of the deaths, murder, torture and victimisation the rural electorate is subjected to. The fact that Zanu (PF) has lost support all over Zimbabwe, including Mashonaland, is the result of genocidal actions on the people and we know that. Does it make any sense for the MDC to attack its own supporters or is it of any logical sense to say MDC is violent?

Engineers, are you there?

EDITOR – Engineers, are you there at ZESA Harare Power Station?

Why are you generating power, whilst doing so much damage to the environment? Half the coal you are burning is coming out as carbon monoxide, which not only damages the environment; it’s even wasteful to the other end of energy management.

Why are you being pushed by politicians against engineering ethics? If they force you, let them take the honours and run the show

It’s better for us not to generate at the expense of the environment. As of now we are faced with problems of energy shortage, so lets find sustainable energy solutions rather than force matters.

Hopelessly hopping along

EDITOR – Mugabe, you shot yourself in the foot, so how are you going to run?

When you were beating the rural people didn’t you know you were going for a rerun?

When you arrested the people’s Morgan didn’t you know you were making him a more famous, hence more support.

When you displaced people with Murambatsvina have you ever thought how we felt?

When you decided to invite the Chinese to recolonise Zimbabwe, did you consult us?

The solutions and perpetrators of the above lies are our basis for whom we are going to vote for.

(Dis)grace indeed

EDITOR – Our Imelda Marcos has come out of the closet. For months, or is it years, she has been fuming behind the high walls of State House, cursing the opposition for destabilising her luxury.

(Dis)grace had become so accustomed to shopping at Harrods and other fancy places all over the world, the travel sanctions meant that this luxury soon faded. Instead she now has to be content shopping in Thailand and other Far East countries.

Her rantings about not leaving State House are unfortunate because the writing is on the wall, (Dis)grace. Morgan does not need you for a second wife.

Is it not painful that the only reason she dumped her first love was because she could not resist the money spinning shopping trips to the West. The old man is a spent force under sheets and I am sure she can find hope in trying to woo Jacob you-know-who.

After all she has tried local, but this only resulted in many politicians fleeing for dear life, simply because she made advances on them. Makamba was a case in point, not to mention the dear father of Russell.

You are welcome to stay in State House, but the job offer is one of stylist for Mai President or wardrobe advisor. Or perhaps you can find a place in the culinary department.

Grasp the jewel

EDITOR – Zanu (PF)’s bag of tricks is now empty. They tried violence and failed, now they want the assassination of President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

Let them humiliate themselves more for they are misguided and lost in the true vision of concepts.

To Gideon Gono, thanks a lot for your term of office, which was full of new vocabulary.

To our new President, guide and lead the Jewel of Africa to soaring heights

Listen to Chinx

EDITOR – As revolutionaries we do not condemn the present actions of the police, but we thank them for they are inspiring more Zimbabweans. Gone are the days when arrests and torture were very painful to the general populace, but now it is better to be in cells than at home.

All forms of intimidation and violence perpetrated by the Zanu (PF) militia are uncalled for, but they are writing history. It should be made clear to everyone that Morgan is more and the wind of change is moving towards liberation of Zimbabwe at the same time bringing sanity to the jewel of Africa.

Yes, I understand they arrested our president on Wednesday, June 4 that is not a case, it is part of the leadership orientation in Africa. To president please do not despair for you are more and real.

Zanu (PF) is more of a dead dog than a live mouse. The economy has collapsed for they have cared for their stomachs not the general populace of the nation.

In all our numbers it is very important to seek motivation from the beatings, abductions and torture to go and vote for peace in our beloved nation of Zimbabwe.

To all Zimbabweans, I urge you to listen the song by Comrade Chinx – Vanhu vemuAfrica – the message speaks for itself. In the song the musician shuns brutality and I do not know whether Bob has the time to analyse the message. Chinx would probably have been labelled an MDC supporter, when in fact he wanted rule of law.

To Comrade Chinx, Zanu (PF) might have used you, but you are a real liberation hero. As a revolutionary you do not need to focus on past issues, but they should bring about motivation to you in the struggle. Do not worry about the dead, but focus on burying an old dog called Zanu (PF) with Robert Mugabe on 27 June.

Go and vote for Morgan Tsvangirai.

Govt has failed students

EDITOR – Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right states in no uncertain terms that ‘everyone has the right to education, technical and professional education shall be generally accessible to all on the basis of merit’.

But the illegitimate government of Zimbabwe has commercialised education making it a preserve for the rich in a country where more than 80% of the people live way below the poverty datum line. We the students of Zimbabwe refuse to recognise Stan Mudenge as the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education and above all Robert Mugabe as the Chancellor of all state universities for they have done nothing to alleviate our plight, but only succeeded in militarising the institutions and in making those with progressive ideas disappear.

We have come to a conclusion that Mugabe and his cronies are not touched by the deteriorating standards of education in state institutions since they did most of their degrees in prison and comfortable exile environments during Smith’s rule.

Their reluctance has led to a worsening accommodation crisis, which has left most students with no option but to sleep in abandoned buildings and railway station waiting rooms with little or no food to feed their empty stomachs.

The illegal and enforced grab of city water and sewer systems from Bulawayo City Council by ZINWA has worsened the situation. Bulawayo Polytechnic College has been running for more than a month with no water so students now resort to unsafe sources of water and the bush system for relief.

The government has proved with no doubt that it is anti-students and we are, unapologetically, going to boot it out come June 27 since it has lost our interests.

Not so Bright

EDITOR – Whoever picked Not-So-Bright Matonga to be the spokesperson for the ruining party made a big mistake; his mouth is quicker than his brains making every statement that he utters one of regret. After he was contacted for comment by Talk Radio 702 about the CIO and War vets terrorising the British and US envoy, he retorted, “they were at an MDC rally, as diplomats what were they doing there … and they went knowing that they were in a Zanu (PF) stronghold and therefore provoked.”

Now does anyone need a rocket scientist to have proof that the tired regime has barricaded some areas from accessibility by the opposition, does the presence of any opposition campaigners need provoke the marauding war vets and CIO into thuggery?

It appears Zanu (PF)’s penchant for violence is catching up with their image. Senseless boys and grown boys, who cannot distinguish between an enemy and a diplomat, were unleashed upon the people; they cannot tell a white diplomat from a white farmer. The inscription on the number plates of the cars simply meant nothing to them.

Now Matonga is trying vehemently to overturn his earlier assertion, but the damage is already done. Mugabe and his small circle of cronies have surrounded themselves with sycophants who know no diplomacy. Failures of the Tsholotsho debacle have been roped in for his campaign with Emmerson Mnangagwa leading Chinotimba, Sibanda and Chinamasa.

I am not a Zanu (PF) supporter, but Mugabe would have had a better strategy with the likes of Simba Makoni, Solomon Mujuru, Ray Kaukonde, Nathan Shamuyarira and all other veterans of the liberation struggle, people who still have a shred of reputation in the party.

It seems those appointed to assist Mugabe with victory are doing everything in their power to destroy even the little he could salvage of his image. No regard is being given of those voters who voted for Mugabe because they thought all mayhem is not attributed to him.

What of those who were sitting on the fence? The current events are proof to them that their vote lies elsewhere. This campaign has been done in such a brazen manner that it might cost Mugabe 5% of votes he had in the first round.

He, who has ears, let him take heed.

Vote without fear

EDITOR – I would like to congratulate President Morgan Tsvangirai and all Zimbabweans for pressing the SADC and UN to increase and send observers to monitor the run-off on June 27 respectively.

You have made the whole world know that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe, contrary to Mr. Mbeki’s statements.

These observers are so important as it would help the people to conduct their political activities without much interference from Zanu (PF) thugs. I therefore urge all registered voters to exercise their right to vote without any fear. Mugabe should not exceed 15%.

Vote Morgan Tsvangirai for President.

Illegitimacy is Zanu’s creed

EDITOR – It was ‘reassuring’ to hear Aziz Pahad (SA Deputy Foreign Minister on SABC on  June 5th, 2008) say that every matter of contention in the forthcoming run-off election must be thoroughly  investigated to ensure that the will of the Zimbabwean people is not subverted. I am moved to give him a few pointers for his immediate attention:

· More than 30 000 people have been displaced owing to political violence allegedly perpetrated by Zanu (PF) militants. Surely these need to exercise their democratic right. Can we be assured that they will be returned to their homesteads and their IDs restored in time for the run-off. Failure to do this should render the election result illegitimate.

· Political violence has not ceased. Failure to deploy observers and follow up every act of political violence now should render the election result illegitimate.

· Millions of Zimbabweans outside the country are not allowed by Mugabe to vote. Failure to give them the vote should render the result illegitimate.

· Members of the uniformed forces are said (according to press reports) to have voted (in terms of the postal ballot system) under the watchful eye of their commanders. Any indication that an officer did not express his/her will freely should render the election result illegitimate.

· Any person who has been removed from the voters roll or prevented from voting should render the election result illegitimate.
