Wetangula spoke during the opening of a parliamentary forum on sustainable development and aid ffectiveness organized by the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) on Tuesday.
Wetangular noted that focus should be on trade, and not aid, to enable fair playing ground.
Wetangula singled out the fact that African farmers for instance who do not enjoy the subsidies given to their western counterparts.
Wetangula is urging developed countries to influence policy change, and embark on knowledge transfer to improve value addition for African products, which will inturn fetch high prices in the global markets.
Speaker of Kenya National Assembly Kenneth Marende challenged parliamentary committees to go an extra mile in engaging with public officials, in order to ensure trade balance and combat climate change.
He said parliamentary committees will be strengthened in expertise and capacity to boost performance.
Dr. Nico Scholten, President of Awepa underscored the importance of parliament uging developing countries to pay attention to good leadership to enable better strategies for development.
As a panacea to food security, Kenyans have been urged to diversify on food crops, and avoid over reliance on rain fed agriculture.
The three day forum is organized by (AWEPA), in co-operation with the Pan-African Parliament, the East Africa Legislative Assembly (eala) and the Kenya Parliament.
The forum is held in preparation for the UN Climate conference to be held in Copenhagen next year.
