MRA sources said police picked the consignment which was meant for
clearance and took to State House.According to documents sourced by
Nyasa Times the container had bill of lading number 05950 with original
invoice; Ligo Trading Company Private Bag a139 Lilongwe Malawi.
It contained men's UDF t-shirts and knitting huts, said MRA sources.
They were imported from China, said the high ranking MRA official who opted for anonymity.
The documents show that they were shipped from Ningbo- China port with
date of invoice 29 April 2008.There were 25,000knitting huts and 54,504
UDF t-shirts.
However, the container also contained 3,432 ruling DPP t-shirts belonging to a Mr. Mwanse a supporter of the ruling party.
These campaign materials were confiscated and taken to State House to
stop UDF from having campaign materials and DPP would want to use some
of the materials for its youth brigade to wear and beat up people so
that UDF can be blamed for violence, said a senior DPP official in
Blantyre.
