International Observers: Malawi Flying on a wing and prayer!

Nyakuchenya Ganda

Since the cessation of hostilities or after election violence in Kenya and Zimbabwe; the world has woken up to sometimes dreadful realities of multiparty elections in Africa. No wonder then that the European Union and other international observers /stakeholders have already started sending their staff to monitor the May 19th General Elections in Malawi and any other events leading up to it.

Mind you reader: The patient has taken the pill but the medicine is
new one; these people are here to just monitor the elections and not
to solve any problems. After the elections they will compile their
reports repeating what we have been telling you all along about how
this election was rigged from day one, the DPP minority government
illegally installed itself in power.

Suffice to say the conduct of democratic elections in Africa seems to
be a far fetched dream because our leaders tend to put too much stock
in the falsehoods they get from their sycophantic advisors and other
pedestrian praise-singers, about their popularity with the masses so
that they find it difficult to accept defeat after awe-inspiring
opposition wins.

Indications in Malawi so far clearly suggest that it is very unlikely
that we are going to have a free and fair election on May 19th, given
the way government is abusing public resources to consolidate its grip
on power: So that any attempts by anybody to bring in some hygiene to
the electoral process are seen by government as acts of resistance,
abrasion and irritation of its tyrannical-mucosa. What a way to drag
down our warmth as a nation.

Especially when the seductive quality of politics' legs becomes a
complete turn on to people, who have rendered themselves vulnerable to
an extremist mentality that is intolerant of people advocating good
governance and respect of civil liberties. This endemic is the source
of the political tension Malawi is experiencing now and it is what the
international observers have to deal with before May 19th.

It seems the Electoral Code of Conduct authored by the Electoral
Commission [EC], and well advertised by Judge Msosa and her grunions is
a paper tiger that has been shredded chiefly by government; yes the
same government that promised to ensure trouble free elections when
Mutharika presented his Nomination Papers to the EC on 5th February
2009 is reneging on its promise

The international observers will possibly be shocked to learn that
nothing has changed since the campaign season was opened by the
Electoral Commission. Government continues to incite violence through
its felonious contract-vendors of terror; and in a similar correlation
it has completely gone berserk in its fraudulent dealings with
legendary Private-Parts-Pluckers like Mulanje based Patrick Murama,
DPP's dissident crusader and high octane donor.

Equally gut-wrenching is the fact that the National Consolidated Fund
continues to hemorrhage profusely as government persists with its
illegal spending extravaganza, by importing high maintenance grub
endurance Hummer Sports Utility Vehicles; and Luxury Coaches that are
not even designed for the rugged terrain of the rural areas where
Mutharika is supposed to campaign if he is to have any notable impact
on the General Elections.

Of course, the horrifying DPP over-romanticism that came like leprosy
over our moral authority as a nation is in reality, caught up in a
raging battle with our political colliery, so that Malawians should
be made aware of the harrowing experience of horror that awaits them if
the worst of evils happens to sustain DPP in power.

I don't know what the beauty of a dictatorship is exactly. But as far
as I know it becomes cant or baloney at any time. But if you don't
think about it-and why should you?-it has a magic to those who get the
delinquent rewards after performing some monstrous crimes on behalf of
the tyrants. It is in reality evil, definitely, bullions of
sycophancy' and a warrant of submissiveness'.

But to some, to the desecrated vestiges of the human race; it still
produces a sense of splendor to want to sustain such notoriety and
gratuitous behavior in power: Yes, some people are so hare-brained so
that they will vote the self-styled and grotesquely enchanted Master
Vendors of Vitriolic and Vituperative political color and razzmatazz
to remain aureoled in undeserved glamour.

It is obvious that the effects of these political infibulations are as
monumental as they are disastrous in the sense that, Malawians are
becoming more and more worried about what may happen if the DPP loses
the May 19th General Elections.

Since Malawians are peace loving people and well known for revulsion of
war mongers and abject criminals, they see government's intransigence
as a wound that provides violence a direct portal of entry into the
national bloodstream. Add to that a government information machine
that has been corrupted with some incurable human pestilence that is
forcing the leadership to pass up the great moments and opportunities
of Malawi Politics.

Any reasonable person considering to vote on May 19th 2009, must
consider the larger possibility that the General Elections are already
rigged by a government that has gone flat out to protect its hideous
activities; and voters must choose the UDF/MCP and Alliance Partners
Coalition as a safer option as it provides less risks to our democratic
dispensation.

This alternative must be encouraged and discussed in glowing terms in our communities before May 19th.
