Police sources said the interrogated the opposition leader who is disputing the May elections in court alleging widespread irregularities and rigging- for a couple of minutes.
Spokesperson of the MCP, Nancy Tembo confirmed that the party president who is facing pressure from some members to resign was ordered to appear for questioning.

However, police sources said he was interrogated on the recent violence which his alleged supporters attacked two members of parliament who were demanding his ouster.
Tembos drive-cum-bodyguard James Phakamisa, party administrative secretary Portipher Chidaya and another aide Lyton Dzombe were arrested in connection with the violence.
They have since been released on bail.
Observers have said since President Bingu wa Mutharika won the May 19 elections and secured an absolute majority for his party in parliament there is a worrying trend that democratic rights were being eroded.
The government is seen as engaging on tactics of stifling the political opposition and civil liberties.
