Football fans will need to fork out US$3 for the gate charges leading to the rest of the ground when the premier soccer league resumes this weekend. The fee, which was previously US$1 was hiked last weekend following an agreement by the 16-teams to try and maximize on revenue after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) took most of the income for the security they provide Other sections of the stadiums will be charged according to the profile of the matches. Premiership clubs usually hike their gate charges, when they face teams with a huge supporter base such as Highlanders, Caps United and Dynamos.
PSL chairman, Tapiwa Matangaidze, said the clubs had agreed to raise the gate charges saying we sat down as a board and decided to grant their demands but we will be looking at other avenues to alleviate the burden on the clubs, chief of which will be looking to them to find us recruits (police officers on training) who will be hired to provide security.
