Tanzanian Media Bill To Be Tabled Before Ministers council

george_mkuchika_mediaMinister of Information, Culture and Sport, George Mkuchika announced before parliament on 15 July 2009 that government intends to table the Media Bill before Ministers Council. The bill intends to repeal all scrap laws that are repugnant with the constitution especially on the right to information.


Mkuchika suggested this while presenting his ministrys budget estimates in parliament and stated that the bill will also help to establish an independent body that will oversee qualifications of Journalists and professional ethics.

The bill will incorporate training of journalists in different subject areas like law, economics and many others to supplement Journalists with a variety of knowledge and specializations.

He added that government has allocated 2 billion Tsh spinning over 2009/2010 financial year to complete with the setting of FM radio systems for the remaining 10 regions.
