HIV and hepatitis B tests for boxers

aids_ribbonBULAWAYO - The country's boxing board has passed a directive making it mandatory for professional and non-professional boxers to have HIV and hepatitis B tests before any boxing match. The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) secretary-general, Patrick Mukondiwa, confirmed the tests.

“Following approval by our parent ministry, it is now a requirement for boxers seeking registration with the board to produce certificates of freedom from the HIV and hepatitis B viruses to support their licence applications with immediate effect. Testing venues shall be government hospitals, or the board doctor only,” said Mukondiwa.
