The initiative will take place during the African edition of the National Basketball Associations global basketball development and community outreach programme at the American International School here from 2-6 September.
The event, under the auspices of Basketball Without Borders, is in its seventh consecutive year.
Basketball without Borders helps us to bring attention to important social issues that affect communities around the world through the game of basketball. We know that by teaching the values of the game – teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work, and healthy living our current and former players and coaches can also make a lasting impact on communities in need, said Kathleen Behrens, NBA Executive Vice President, Social Responsibility and Player Programs in a statement made available to the Zimbabwean.
NBA players and U.S. Olympians Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard and Dikembe Mutombo have confirmed their participation.
Meanwhile, the top youth players spanning the African continent, as selected by the NBA, FIBA and participating federations, will come together to train under NBA players and coaches, and compete against their peers. Campers will be divided into teams independent of race, religion or nationality in an effort to promote friendship and diversity.
Basketball without Borders is a great way for the league and its players to give back to needy around the world, said Bosh.
